Class Calendar
Here is the calendar for our class.
Narrative of Class Environment
The student will write a narrative description [2-3 pages] of the learning environment and unit contents. Description of the learning environment should address the following details: class grade, language level, classroom setup, availability of computers in the classroom or in the school, demographic setting of the school,
PowerPoint
Make a PPT presentation based on your narrative description of your learning environment. The presentation should be at least 4 slides and needs to include audio, pictures, transitions, and text. See our tips.
Student Blog Site
Each student will create an blog that demonstrates increasing exploration and skill development in the creation of CALL activities. The activities will reflect meaningful, cohesive planning based around a core thematic unit. Activities should fit within and complement a one-week lesson plan. All activities must be appropriate to the grade -level and correspond with a themed unit.
Software Evaluation
Students will evaluate a piece of third party software based on the models provided in the class. Here is a detailed description of the assignment, but be sure to check the models presented on the Week 1 page. Additionally, here are some Spanish and French Grammar sites for you to review. [Due to difficulties in finding software, we have agreed to accept interactive websites designed for language learning.]
Technology Worksheet
Georgia Technology Worksheet. Some students may have already completed this in previous classes. If not, please complete and turn in by the date indicated.
Final Reflection Paper
Students will reflect on the theoretical concepts presented in class as represented in their portfolio. Students will describe the learning objectives reflected in each activity and evaluate its pedagogical effectiveness and appropriateness. Because of the demands of the course and complexity of topics covered, students should feel free to discuss the limitations encountered in the software, the activity as envisioned as compared to the realized activity, and what, if anything, the student would improve or change in order to achieve the activity that most closely resembled the idealized project. This is the narrative opportunity for the student to assimilate the many concepts presented in the course and tie theory and creativity with practical experience.
Last night I tried to work on the technology worksheet. The Georgia Standards website has completely changed, and I was not able to access the information as directed on the worksheet. The new format for the standards does not follow the old, and it was a challenge to find and synthesize some of the information. I did not find any standards for elementary school. Perhaps the old access is temporarily blocked, and perhaps I wasn’t seeing links that could get me to the correct information. Also, there were a few links to other websites which no longer exist.
Can we please take a look at this in class on Monday? I am wondering how the worksheet can be completed. Thanks!
Wow! That’s important to know. I’ll give Dr Swanson the heads-up on this and we’ll address this in class. I suppose this is an important object lesson in how dynamic web-based information can be, and how important it is to verify that your web-based activities still function as designed. ;- ) ~Trish
Has anyone been able to find a software program to evaluate? If so, how and where? I am looking to get something free from a library but am running into deadends. If anyone has any suggestions, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks,
Jill
Have you checked with your local county library? I will take a walk over to the Instructional Technology Center in the College of Education today and see what resources they have available and report back to the class. We might need to take a short “field-trip” over there to check out their materials. ~Trish
Thanks, I did try looking online at my county library but wasn’t really able to find anything there. It might be better to go in person but it’s hard to get there during the week. Something at GSU might work better for those of us who are teaching all day and coming straight to class! A field trip would be great.
I have had the same problem as Laura with the Standars. I have a hard copy of what I believe is the old version. I’ll take a look at it and will let you know if there are any standars for the elementary level.
Dr. Swanson and Trish,
I am having a very difficult time coming up with a realia lesson using the family as my thematic unit. I don’t have access to youtube so my resources are limited. Is there anyway I can do another unit due to time constraints? One day turnaround is proving to be quite difficult for me at the moment.
Lourdes – I would greatly appreciate you sharing any information you have. If you find your hard copy, please bring it to class. If there is anyone else out there who has hard copies of any of the standards and/or other information required on the technology worksheet and is willing to share, please bring them to class. Thanks so much! Laura
Jill,
Do you have a syllabus from Dr. Hanley’s Methods class?
I need a copy of it. You can e-mail it or bring the hard copy to me and we can photocopy it in class if you, by chance still have it.

Hey guys,
I was under the impression that someone had a copy of the QCC standards we need to fill out the technology worksheet and was going to post it on here. Does anyone have it and could you please post it here? Thanks!
Jess
Kristy,
I still have the copy of Dr.Hanley’s syllabus. Let me know if you still need it. 404.245.8175.
Jorge
Jorge,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I do still need a copy. Could you either e-mail it to me, if you can scan it, or it’s easier, you could bring the hard copy to class on Tuesday and maybe we can scan it there.
Thanks again. See you on Tuesday.
Kristy
I am having difficulties accessing the Georgia Standards page. Also, some of the other elements from ACTFL, I was unable to find. Is there somwhere that I can look at a hard copy of these items, such as a library?
