Emerging Technologies in Education

  • Web 2.0 in Education
  • Each group will investigate the assigned topic and be prepared to 1) present the technology to the class as a whole, 2) discuss the pros and cons of the technology, and 3) present two language activities that utilize the technology.  The activities do not need to be “live” demonstrations, but can be conceptualized activities.  Be sure to address learning outcomes, task, and appropriate assessments.  What new functions and abilities can these technologies bring to the language classroom.  How might they be incorporated into the curriculum?

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the “Realia” article. What I find most interesting is that, in my years of studying Spanish at the grade school level, those elements were not being incorporated into the curriculum. I believe that students will be able to grasp the concept of learning a second language much faster and easier if there is a direct correlation between general curriculum and the target language. It is absolutely impossible to master a language without a thorough knowledge of the culture, customs and history of it. As a Spanish teacher, I aspire to have each one of my students develop the ability to utilize Spanish far beyond grade school.

  6. Trish –
I downloaded Hot Potatoes onto my flash drive and then tried to run it. I got an error message that the file is corrupt. I am hesitant to put it onto my personal computer until I am sure that it works OK. What do you suggest?

Did you download the Hot Potatoes installer from the website? If so, it may just have downloaded improperly or incompletely. I would save it again. Go to the HP website, and under the download options, choose “Save” and select your flash drive. That will save the executeable installer, that you can then run on your home machine. Hope this helps! ~Trish
